Information for parents

Joining your school’s band or string ensemble is an exciting opportunity for your child!

Band is where students and a variety of woodwind, brass and percussion instruments come together as a group. We also offer bass guitar. Your child will attend a weekly band rehearsal on their chosen instrument. Our school bands also perform regularly at school assemblies and events.

String Ensemble is where is a weekly group lesson where children come together to play as an ensemble. The instruments found in our string ensembles are violin, viola, cello and double bass. Our string ensembles aim to perform regularly at school assemblies and events.

The instruments your child can choose to play in band/ensemble are listed on our Instruments page.

As part of being in the school band or string ensemble, your child will also need to have a weekly private lesson on their instrument. We offer a variety of music lessons that cater for all budgets. Please see Music Lessons for more details.

You will need to hire or purchase your own instrument to play in the band/ensemble. Instruments are not provided by The Music Partnership, however we are very happy to assist you in your instrument hire. We recommend Presto Instruments for instrument hire. Please email sales@prestoinstruments.com.au for all your instrument hire enquiries.

Information for schools

The Music Partnership establishes, revitalises and consults on existing band, string and instrumental programs at schools around the Sydney metropolitan area.

Perhaps your school may not have a band/string program and would like to get one started? Maybe your school already has an existing band/string program that needs invigorating?

The Music Partnership works together with parents, teachers, committees and school administration to help take the pressure off and enhance the running of school bands.

The Music Partnership is involved from the start – from band ‘try an instrument’ demonstrations right through to performances and specialist workshops. The Music Partnership assists, consults and develops all aspects of school music programs.

Band is open to all children in Years 2-6, whilst our String Ensembles are open to children in Years K-6 at our primary school programs.

The Music Partnership takes care of communication and management of our band/string programs. We monitor attendance, administrate all aspects of the programs and communicate regularly with parents. Parents receive regular band newsletters keeping them up to date with what’s happening within their school band/string program.

Performance is a key element of any band’s success. We ensure that all of our school bands perform regularly throughout the year, both at school and at public events. We also encourage participation in band festivals and workshops throughout the year.
